Triangle

Triangle pose is a great stretch for the side of your body and your legs. This is a pose that can easily be modified for people who are less flexible - instead of trying to reach your hand to the floor, you can put it on a block, or even on your thigh. You want [...]

Keep a Food Diary

A study by Kaiser Permanente, which will be published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine in August, found that keeping a food diary doubled the amount of weight people lost. So if you need to lose a few pounds, try keeping a diary of everything you eat.

Pigeon Pose

This week’s pose of the week is Pigeon. I love Pigeon - it really stretches out my hips like nothing else. I wasn’t able to do pigeon late in my pregnancy, and I really missed it. Yoga Journal explains how to do this pose here, although I learned a slightly different position. I was taught [...]

Ughhh ...

5/29/08 ... Days left before initial goal ... 2 ... pounds away from goal ... 9.5. I was doing so good, the weight was coming off slowly, but steadily. And then I hit a standstill. I am still walking 7 days a week, mixing my routes, my intensities, running some days walking others ... and yet, my progress has slowed to a crawl. I'm at 208.5. Back in January, I was 236.5 and I had set an initial goal of 199 by end of May. That's not going to happen, and I am a little down now. On the 7th, I leav… Continue

working out with a trainer

I did a pilates workout yesterday with a personal trainer, which was the first time I've ever worked with a personal trainer. The one on one coaching is really helpful, and she had tips and suggestions I wouldn't have thought of. It reminded me a little bit of when I was younger and I was on my high school diving team - the attention to small details in form can really make a big difference. I probably wouldn't have tried this normally, because it's really expensive to work out with a really goo… Continue

plateaus

I was losing baby weight without trying much at first, but I've hit a plateau - still 10 pounds to go, which is the same as about a month ago. So I'm starting to cook more meals at home & I'm eating salads a lot more often. I'm also stepping up my exercise a little bit. I'm taking it pretty easy still, since I went so long without working too hard, but I've started walking up hills, and keeping a faster pace when I walk, so that I get a little bit winded. I'm also getting stronger from doing… Continue

Creating in bed

No you dirty minded ones reading that title to mean something about baby making. I just had a day of laying in bed and crocheting because my head was hurting and my sense of balance was way off. I did manage to create a cotton crochet bikini top, so the whole day wasn't wasted. The headache has worn off now so I might get on with re-designing our Hyperloop Hoop site's logo,or I might try and get the sewing machine set up so I can hem some waterproof pic… Continue

No hooping today

Too many ouchie muscles to do any hooping today so I drew a robot for my friend instead. He wanted one he could have printed onto his kite bags and on the base of his long board. I'm not entirely happy with the finished product, but I never am when it comes to what I draw. I might take the basic robot and draw him in more animated poses.
